Infection Control Professional

Job description

The ICP is responsible for: ensuring that effective prevention and control activities are implemented across the spectrum of care that are specific to the practice setting, and the population being served; ensuring current infection control best practices are being met; ensure select sentinel and significant health care infections, events and trends are promptly identified and addressed; providing and analyzing data to maintain current standards contributing to quality improvement; consulting and liaising with community health agencies; consulting and collaborating with stakeholders. Other key functions include committee participation with internal and external stakeholders, as well as facilitating change through interpretation and application of standards, and providing and developing new clinical practice recommendations for Infection Control. The ICP is responsible to comply with all professional licensing bodies and Covenant Health policies and procedures. The ICP provides leadership and direction for IPC initiatives throughout the organization, and in addition, will provide orientations, in-service programs, clinical consultation, and individual staff development initiatives in Infection Prevention and Control. The Infection Control Professional employs critical thinking skills to make decisions for the day-to-day operations of IPC standards and practices throughout Covenant Health with the goal of improving patient outcomes and preventing healthcare-associated infections. Travel to all sites is required. On-call support as needed. Currently licensed with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) or an applicable professional licensing body required. Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS Level C – Health Care Provider required. Three years of related experience in health care either acute care or continuing care setting required. A combination of education and experience will be considered, with preference for proficiency in two of the following areas: Patient Care Practice; Microbiology and Infectious Diseases; Epidemiology and Bio statistics. Additional Required Qualifications: Skills and expertise to communicate knowledge and support delivery of the Infection Control Work plan. Interpersonal skills including negotiation, influencing, facilitating, conflict resolution and the ability to form positive working relationships. Self- motivated, positive, and confident with the ability to cope under stress. Preferred Qualifications: Certification in Infection Control is preferred. Previous Infection Prevention and Control experience preferred.
