Position Overview Under the general supervision of the Program Team Manager and the Pulmonary Technologist, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Management Philosophy of St. Boniface Hospital the pulmonary technician participates in an on-the-job training program in preparation for the Canadian Association of Cardio-Pulmonary Technologists (CACPT) examination.
The pulmonary technician learns to assess how disease has affected the Cardio-Pulmonary System by conducting various Cardio-Pulmonary testing.
NOTE: The degree of independence will increase proportionately to the incumbent’s increased demonstrated proficiency. Experience No further experience required other than that acquired throughout the Respiratory Therapy course. Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate) Completion of a recognized Respiratory Therapy course or equivalent as recognized by the Centre (e.g. Registered member of another Paramedical Professional Group). On-the-job training provided in order to prepare the incumbent for the examination offered by the Canadian Association of Cardio-Pulmonary Technologists (CACPT). Registered Respiratory Therapist or equivalent as recognized by the Centre, (e.g. Registered member of another professional Paramedical group). Must successfully write the examination offered by the Canadian Association of Cardio-Pulmonary Technologists (CACPT) within two (2) years from date of hire. Certification/Licensure/Registration Valid license with Manitoba Association of Registered Respiratory Therapists (MARRT) or Manitoba Respiratory Therapy Regulatory Body. Current Basic Life Support (BLS). Qualifications and Skills Good interpersonal communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with professional staff at all levels. Ability to adapt readily to changing demands and situations. Demonstrates critical thinking/problem solving skills. Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands. Demonstrated ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities. Ability to perform independently and as a member of the health care team. Physical Requirements Good physical and mental health and manual dexterity. The Collective Agreement this position is covered under, is identified by the Union noted above. As a result of The Health Sector Bargaining Unit Review Act, the bargaining agent for this position may differ from the Union identified. This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT. The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
